Background

iDE is an international nonprofit dedicated to combating poverty in the developing world not through handouts, but by helping rural households access the tools and knowledge they need to increase their income and improve their health and well-being. iDE has 40 years of experience and programs in 11 countries in Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, and Central America.

IDE's vision, to catalyze the power of entrepreneurship to allow millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty, is ambitious and bold. We need a person who is, first and foremost, passionate about this vision and wants to harness the power of digital media to help iDE achieve it.

Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI): iDE recognizes that biases and social norms prevent women, men, and socially excluded groups from exercising free choice and from taking full and equal advantage of opportunities for individual development, contribution, and reward. iDE further recognizes the intersectionality of biases represent a double and triple burden, further limiting individuals from exercising free choice and from taking full and equal advantage of opportunities for individual development, contribution, and reward. These disparities and biases undermine the effectiveness of iDE’s programs - leading to less inclusive markets, businesses that miss critical segments, and unsustainable social and economic outcomes. To uphold our mission of creating income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households iDE requires a strong team of GESI officers to engage our staff in the advancement of our GESI commitments.

This position requires 40% of LOE for the responsibilities listed below in addition to the ability to complete country-level position commitments. The regional position will be responsible for engaging staff in GESI mainstreaming and integration work in all Africa countries where iDE has on-going project work.

  • Ensure that GESI assessments are completed at the start, mid and end of all projects in the regional portfolio, provide guidance to project teams to assist in GESI transformative improvements and report needs for tools and resources to global GESI.
  • In line with Integration Commitment F, engage with women’s networks and relevant community stakeholder groups to incorporate best practices in women’s economic empowerment into our work.
