Job Description

Daystar Power Group is a Pan-African provider of solar and hybrid power solutions, offering its systems on a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), fixed monthly fee lease, or buy-out basis. All our solutions are accompanied by comprehensive maintenance services, to ensure the solutions run 365 days a year. We are currently operational in seven countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, and have recently launched in South Africa and Tanzania.

We are on the lookout to engage a competent and experienced Field Service Technician to maintain and operate our sites in several locations in Ghana. He or she will troubleshoot and repair PV inverters, commission new equipment, and increase customer satisfaction through quality service and professional behaviour. The ideal candidate must be able to operate, service, and maintain renewable energy hybrid systems installed for clients in the commercial amp; industrial to achieve a minimum uptime of 99.9%.

Key responsibilities:

Field Service

  • Performing routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance of solar and related power installations.
  • Writing monthly, maintenance and event reports.
  • Resolves site issues remotely and through site visits.
  • Advises manager of any issues that arise on-site or customer concerns.
  • Trains client on how to operate and optimally use the system.
  • Installs solar, battery, generators and, ACs at sites across Ghana.
  • Maintains PPE and ensures site safety.
  • Maintains assigned tools.
  • Produces daily reports achievement.
  • Performs frequent site visits to maintain the solar power plant, generators, and, ACs.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction.
  • Serves as the first line of contact for client complaint

Ancillary Responsibilities

Projects

  • Lead in assembling solar modules and solar racks.
  • Identify, electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with PV and related power installations and proffers mitigation measures.
  • Lead in setting up ladders, loading/unloading equipment, and other safety equipment.
  • Maintain and secure installation tools and ensure proper housekeeping on the client’s site.
  • Interpret electrical drawings and assemble electrical components based on specifications.
  • Create electrical schematics drawing and layout in AutoCAD and related CAD software.
  • Lead in installing electrical cable conduits and cables.

Sales Engineering

  • Conducting site and energy audits.
  • Install Energy meters and routers on client’s sites.

General

  • Implement standard operating procedures and HSE standards for solar installation work.
  • Review technological trends in the local and global energy sector.

Working condition

    • Approximately 50% of time shall be spent in office environments with the remaining time in the field.

Physical requirements

    • The Technician shall be capable of lifting up to 20kg; stand for an extended period of time; work in outdoor environment.

Requirements

1. Education: Minimum of a Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

2. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of work experience in Electrical Engineering roles, preferably in the renewable energy or power industry installing and/or maintaining solar systems and generators.

3. Language Proficiency: English, French will be an advantage.

4. Character:

  • Self-motivated and demonstrate a sense of ownership with a high level of commitment and the ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Passionate about quality of workmanship.
  • Good communication skills and ability to lead and work well in teams.
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and prioritize competing demands, passion for renewable energy.

5. HSE certification is an advantage.

6. Flexible to travel domestically and internationally.

7. Must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint in particular).
