About the role:

We are looking for an exceptional Curriculum Researcher for BECE and NPSE to join our amazing curriculum team. Excellent curriculum content is at the heart of our approach, as we provide our schools with detailed lesson plans and associated learning materials that have been specifically developed for the country context, the needs of our staff, and the ability levels of our students. The Curriculum Researcher will research key information on the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and National Primary School Examination (NPSE) in West Africa in order to inform any needed improvements and updates to our existing content and to specifically support student success and achievement with respect to this content and the relevant exams.

The Curriculum Researcher - BECE and NPSE will:

  • Analyze questions in past papers to create a summary document that maps each question to the national curriculum and Global Proficiency Framework standard.
  • Create a summary analysis of the content standards assessed in past papers to determine how similar the assessed content is by year and identify trends.
  • Map lesson plans to content assessed in national exams, to determine potential curriculum gaps.
  • Identify similarities and differences in the Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean BECE exams.
  • Obtain official past exam papers through credible sources.
  • Assist with the creation of mock papers for students in Sierra Leone and Ghana.
  • Provide input into best practices for student exam preparation.
  • Liaise with government ministries to gather up to date information on national assessments.

Location and reporting:

This is a contract position (1-2 months). The curriculum researcher needs to be based or have experience in Ghana or SL and can work remotely. The Curriculum Researcher (BECE amp; NPSE) will report directly to Rising’s Curriculum Manager.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • University level undergraduate degree in education or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in curriculum research, development and related careers.
  • Proven track record of success in curriculum research for junior high and primary levels.
  • Exceptional content knowledge in the core subjects: English and Maths.
  • Experience preparing students for national exams i.e. BECE tutor, JHS 3 classroom teacher etc.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum.
  • Experience in conducting educational research is a plus.

  • You are comfortable working with senior leadership, reporting on data and outcomes.
  • You are willing to take risks, fail, learn, give and receive feedback, and try new approaches.
  • Basic familiarity with technology, including desktop computers, Microsoft and Google Suite.
  • You are passionate about improving the quality of education across Africa.
